Sitting with Jesus in the Storm

Be still, and know that I am God
— Psalm 46:10

Welcome. This is a space to breathe and let the noise of the day step back for a few minutes and allow the Lord to minister to you.

Open your journal. Uncap your pen. Set a timer for five minutes and simply be still.

If your mind wanders, bring it back gently. No frustration. No starting over. Just return.

If something rises in you, a word, a thought, a question, write it down. You do not have to sort it out. Just notice.

Five minutes of not striving.

Five minutes of not fixing.

Five minutes of being with Him.

He is here with you in this moment.

When the Waves Rise

Spend a few moments telling Him how it feels. Tell Him where it hurts. Tell Him what feels unfair.

Tell Him you are tired.

Storms demand attention. They fill the sky. They roar so loudly that everything else fades from view.

Jesus call Himself our Shepherd.

When danger appears, the sheep lifts its head, finds the shepherd, and then returns to grazing. The battle belongs to the one holding the staff.

So too with you.

The winds may be strong. The season may feel long. But your eyes were never meant to stay fixed on the storm.

“I lift my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord” Psalm 121:1-2

The battle belongs to the one holding the staff.

Reflection Questions

Open your journal and let the Holy Spirit lead you. You don’t have to answer every question. Just notice which one won’t let you go.

  • What emotions do you often experience when a storm rolls in?

  • How do those emotions shape the way you see everything around you?

  • Has this storm drawn you closer to God or has it pushed you away further? Be honest. He already knows.

  • Do you find it easy or difficult to trust God in the middle of uncertainty?

  • What does that struggle reveal about what you truly believe?

  • Have you ever experienced a moment of peace in the middle of a storm?

  • How do you sense God inviting you to respond differently this time?

Scriptures to Anchor You

Continue the Journey

If this season feels longer than you expected…

If you are learning to trust in ways you never had to before…

If you are discovering that joy is deeper than circumstances…

I share more of that road in Even in the Silence: Finding Joy in the Waiting.

Lord, when I don’t know what to do, help me keep my eyes on you.

When the winds are loud and the waves feel too high, remind me that You are already in the boat with me.

When silence is the only answer I hear, teach me to trust what I cannot yet see.

When I am tempted to stare at the storm, lift my head towards You, for You are the lifter of my head.

Amen
